The two men were captured by county and village officers following a foot pursuit through streets and backyards in Pelham Manor. A handgun was recovered, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police.

The incident began about 12:10 p.m. Tuesday when WCPD Officer Dave Dirienzo stopped an Infiniti sedan with apparently fraudulent license plates from New Jersey. As he walked up to the vehicle, the driver sped off, O'Leary said.

The Infiniti traveled southbound on the Hutch at a high rate of speed and then exited at Boston Post Road. The suspect vehicle then collided with another car, injuring the woman who was driving it, he said.

The suspects bailed out of their car and attempted to force their way into another car, but ran off as Dirienzo intervened.

Following a foot pursuit, WCPD Officer Paul Desousa captured one of the suspects and Pelham Manor officers nabbed the other, O'Leary said.

Both suspects, whose identities were not available,  were taken to county police headquarters in Hawthorne. O'Leary said charges are pending and will likely include unlawful fleeing a police officer,  reckless driving and criminal possession of a weapon.

The female driver of the civilian vehicle that was struck by the Infiniti was taken to Montefiore New Rochelle Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
